4. Direct Messages (DM's)
Direct messages are a newer feature that was added to Instagram not to long ago. If you can use DM's the right way they can be very effective depending on what you want to get out of them. By sending DM's to a new follower or a potential client gives you a chance to connect on a more personal, one on one level.
When sending a DM on Instagram you will need 2 things, an image to send and the name of the person your trying to send the DM to. First, deciding on what image to send, you could send a random picture of a product or you can create a DM image that you use specifically for your DM's that include some information on your company. Example: Website, e-mail address, phone number, logo and/or address. This will limit how much you will need to say in the body of your message. From the get-go, they know who you are and all your info before your recipient reads a single word of your message. Next is who your going to send your message to. If you are following the person your sending the message to it should show up in your address book on Instagram. If you are going to send a DM to someone you're not following then you will have to type in the name (Handle ex @thegreatgadabout) and search for it. If your doing more than 1 or 2 at a time then we recommend writing them down first.
Asking the right questions or giving the right amount of info will make a good DM. Try asking a question that could help with product improvements. People love to give feed back about a product they like. By keeping your message short and sweet you should get a higher response rate. The longer your message is the less likely your recipient will read it and respond. You need to create your own plan for DM's that fits your business needs and wants.
Feel free to send us a DM with a sample image and message and we'd love to give you are feedback: @thegreatgadabout
